INTRODUCTION

For more than three years I have been working on the compilation of this "oral history" book about the Shealtiel family.

This came out of the realization that as a family we know only very little about each other and about our past. For the last three years, the issue of our past has been dealt with thoroughly in the Shealtiel Gazette, something which has enabled all of us to get a better understanding of the culture and place where our family came from. But still remains the lack of knowledge that we have on each others lifes. I feel that this book has its justification in compensating this gap.

I hope the Shealtiel Family Book will enable all of you to become closer to your cousins Saltiel, Shaltiel, Sealtiel or Chaltiel, and also to get to know our recently rediscovered relatives: the Saltels, the Saltellis and the S(c)hattils.

In my opinion, learning about the various circumstances in which our family has lived and still lives is one of the most rewarding parts of our family network. You will find it all here. I hope that this document will help our family regain its feeling of family identity and strengthen the ties between us.
Do not try to read the whole book once, but read it bit by bit.
At the end of this book, you will find a list of professions, hobbies and interest of all the family members who have contributed to this book. You can also find the adresses of your relatives in the enclosed list of family adresses, through the number written at the beginning of each personal story. You are most welcome to write to anybody in the family with whom you would like to make contact!

I would be happy to hear from you if you learned more about your relatives, or found a new friend and cousin (through similar interests or occupation) or if you want to comment on this book. Please click here to email me
