The Reunion was a rousing success, attended by 130 Shealtiels from all corners of the globe. It is remembered as a once-in-a-lifetime experience by many who were there. The centerpiece of the reunion - a dinner for members of the extended family from around the world - was an opportunity for the family to recognise aspects of family history by honouring special guests who included: Jehudith Shaltiel and Paula Aronson, respectively the widow and cousin of General David Shaltiel; His Excellency Michael Bavly, the successor in post of General Shaltiel as Israeli Ambassador to the Netherlands; The Honorary Consul General of Greece in Amsterdam, Adam P. Vamvakis, and the Consul General of Spain in Amsterdam, Antonio Navarro de Zuvillaga, to represent past homes of the family; Councilwoman Annemarie Grewel of the City of Amsterdam; and David Cohen Paraira, President of the Board of Deputies of the Sephardic Community, to represent the host country; Iris Fishof, Curator of Jewish Studies at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, to present to the family her findings about the provenance of the Shealtiel Haggadah and Diana Sommer, Director of the Dorot Genealogy Centre of Beth Hatefutsoth, Tel Aviv, to receive the family genealogy.
