he Shealtiels has been very active in recent years organizing family reunions both regionally and internationally. The Fourth International Reunion in Montpellier, France took place in July 2003. A reunion of the Brazilian von Saltiel family took place in November 2002, in the city of Caraá
An early impetus for the growth of our Family network was a preliminary reunion of the Dutch family on November 21st 1993, organized by Rob Sealtiël and Vibeke Sealtiël Olsen. As far as we know, this was the first significant gathering of Family members since the Expulsion from Spain, and possibly the first in history. The reunion drew together members of the family from Belgium, Denmark, and Great Britain, seventy-five persons in all turning up.
Open Door Hospitality Program
Another way we are trying to bring the family together is through the Open Door hospitality program. Family members across the globe have kindly volunteered their residences to travelling Shealtiels to encourage rewarding educational experiences, family bonding, and just plain fun. Many of our young people are hoping to see the world and this wonderful program may help defray some of the prohibitive costs of travel. Of course, older family members are also encouraged. So far, Shealtiels in Argentina, Austria, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Thailand and the United States are involved in the program.
